Trading Session Times in Nigeria (WAT)

Nigeria keeps WAT, UTC+1, all year, which is London's own clock in the UK's summer. London's session runs 08:00 to 17:00 WAT then and 09:00 to 18:00 in winter; New York's runs 13:00 to 22:00, or 14:00 to 23:00. The two overlap 13:00 to 17:00, 14:00 to 18:00 in winter, and 13:00 to 18:00 in the out-of-step weeks.

Sydney + Tokyo

Daylight saving is out of step in these weeks. Sydney went onto summer time on Sunday 4 October 2026; London went back to standard time on Sunday 25 October 2026; New York goes back to standard time on Sunday 1 November 2026. London is 4 hours ahead of New York instead of the usual 5, so their overlap is 5 hours instead of 4 in these weeks. The hours between Sydney and the other cities are an hour off their usual, so the overlaps with Sydney move.

Overlaps on Wednesday 28 October 2026, in Lagos (UTC+1): Sydney and Tokyo 00:00 to 07:00 (7 h); London and New York 13:00 to 18:00 (5 h).

Weekdays Look Alike

Monday to Friday repeat the day above. In Nigeria the week starts on Sunday night and ends on Friday night. In Lagos (UTC+1) the week opens Sunday 22:00 and closes Friday 22:00.

The open and close are a convention many MetaTrader servers follow, not an official time: the currency market has no central exchange. Your broker's hours are the ones that count for your orders.

Broker Server Time in WAT

MetaTrader shows your broker's server time, not WAT. Many servers run at UTC+2, and at UTC+3 while New York is on summer time, so their midnight is 17:00 in New York all year: late evening in Nigeria.

While New York Is on Summer Time

Server 00:00 = 22:00 WAT

WAT is 2 h behind the server (UTC+3).

WAT is 1 h behind the server (UTC+2).

Not every broker does this: some servers run on UTC or on their own city's time. Compare the Market Watch clock with WAT once and note the gap.

In MetaTrader, the panel minds the hours. Both editions, Stopline Trade Manager and Stopline Trade Manager EZ, have a session check that keeps orders out of a symbol's closed trading hours, and the full edition's Trade Time Manager opens or closes at a set time, for example before the news or the weekend.
