Daylight saving is out of step in these weeks. Sydney went onto summer time on Sunday 4 October 2026; London went back to standard time on Sunday 25 October 2026; New York goes back to standard time on Sunday 1 November 2026. London is 4 hours ahead of New York instead of the usual 5, so their overlap is 5 hours instead of 4 in these weeks. The hours between Sydney and the other cities are an hour off their usual, so the overlaps with Sydney move.

Overlaps on Wednesday 28 October 2026, in Mumbai (UTC+5:30): Sydney and Tokyo 04:30 to 11:30 (7 h); London and New York 17:30 to 22:30 (5 h).

Session Times in IST, Season by Season

IST has been UTC+5:30 since October 1945, by the IANA time zone database, so every move in these tables comes from London, New York or Sydney changing their clocks. The half-hour offset puts every open at half past the hour.

The Weekly Open and Close in IST

The week opens at 17:00 on Sunday in New York, which is 02:30 IST on Monday while New York is on summer time and 03:30 in its winter. It closes at 02:30 or 03:30 IST on Saturday, so the weekend begins in the small hours of Saturday in India.

The open and close are a convention many MetaTrader servers follow, not an official time: the currency market has no central exchange. Your broker's hours are the ones that count for your orders.

Broker Server Time in IST

MetaTrader shows your broker's server time, not IST. Many servers run at UTC+2, and at UTC+3 while New York is on summer time, so their midnight is 17:00 in New York all year.

While New York Is on Summer Time

Server 00:00 = 02:30 IST

IST is 2 h 30 min ahead of the server (UTC+3).

While New York Is on Standard Time

Server 00:00 = 03:30 IST

IST is 3 h 30 min ahead of the server (UTC+2).

Not every broker does this: some servers run on UTC or on their own city's time. Compare the Market Watch clock with IST once and note the gap.

In MetaTrader, the panel minds the hours. Both editions, Stopline Trade Manager and Stopline Trade Manager EZ, have a session check that keeps orders out of a symbol's closed trading hours, and the full edition's Trade Time Manager opens or closes at a set time, for example before the news or the weekend.

Questions

What Time Does the London Session Open in India?

At 12:30 IST while the UK is on summer time, from the last Sunday of March to the last Sunday of October, and at 13:30 IST the rest of the year. It closes nine hours later, at 21:30 or 22:30.

When Do London and New York Overlap in IST?

Four hours on most days: 17:30 to 21:30 IST while both cities are on summer time and 18:30 to 22:30 while both are on standard time. In the out-of-step weeks, 25 October to 1 November 2026 and 14 to 28 March 2027, they overlap for 5 h: 17:30 to 22:30 IST.

Why Do the Sessions Open at Half Past the Hour in India?

Because IST is UTC+5:30, half an hour off the whole-hour clocks of London, New York and Tokyo. Every session opens at 08:00 in its own city, so in India it opens at half past: Tokyo at 04:30 IST, London at 12:30 or 13:30, New York at 17:30 or 18:30.

What Is MetaTrader Server Time in IST?

Many servers run at UTC+2, and at UTC+3 while New York is on summer time. IST is then 2 h 30 min ahead of the server, or 3 h 30 min in New York's winter, and the daily candle closes at 02:30 or 03:30 IST. Check your own broker's offset against the Market Watch clock.

Each city's session is 08:00 to 17:00 by its own clock and the week runs from Sunday 17:00 to Friday 17:00 New York time, as on the Trading Sessions page. Offsets and clock changes come from the IANA time zone database, read through your browser. CME Globex hours from CME Group's contract specifications for Euro FX, Gold and E-mini S&P 500 futures, read 20 October 2026; holiday hours differ.
